Branding Committee Monthly Status Report - December 2009

CID&B Committee
DECEMBER 2009

After reconsidering the surveying technique and logo selections, the Branding Committee adopted a new slate of logo and tagline finalists and devised methods for more appropriately testing the concepts with stakeholders. By utilizing in-person straw polling and more personalized electronic surveying, input was collected from a more representative sample than from the first attempt. A final logo, tagline and color scheme were chosen by the committee, and plans were initiated for an unveiling and fundraising kickoff in conjunction with the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet.

NOV 17 Branding Committee members met and selected a new “third choice” finalist from two additional concepts created by hck2 and replaced one of the tagline finalists and brainstormed a fourth.

Hck2 prepared a document for use in straw polls, listing the three logo finalists and four tagline finalists, and including the Mission, Vision and Positioning Statements as a point of reference.

A straw poll was conducted of board members of the Corsicana Development Commission.

NOV 18 A straw poll was conducted of all those present at the Strategic Planning Group monthly recap meeting.

NOV 19 A straw poll was conducted of all those present at the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors meeting.

NOV 30 Additional electronic polling was conducted of stakeholders not reached during in-person straw polling.

DEC 2 Committee members met to discuss results of polling and selected a finalist logo and tagline. Discussion turned to rollout/unveiling and timeline.

DEC 14 The Committee met with hck2 representatives and selected a color palette from several presented. The agency proposed a revised project plan that combines remaining Phase II and some Phase III elements with a fundraising campaign.

DEC 15 Committee members met with a representative from Civic Plus, a web development company specializing in government websites.

About The Corsicana Strategic Planning Group (SPG)

The Corsicana Strategic Planning Group (SPG) is a band of citizens that are neither a part of City of Corsicana or Navarro County, but are sanctioned by both the City of Corsicana (City) and Navarro County (County).

All of the members of the SPG are diligently working to bring both the City and the County together to enhance our local economy.

As members of the SPG, we are here to provide you with exciting information regarding how ALL of us working together as a community can perform the following:

* Enhance the overall appearance of our City and County;
* Improve our infrastructure such as roads, connectvity, water and waste water -- and OUR social infrastructure;
* Make our City and County become the PREFERRED destination location for retail, commercial, industry, tourism, and new residents.

As residents, we all know and are very proud of our rich heritage and the unsurpassed culture of our City and County. But, we also recognize there are still many challenges that lay before us: these challenges present us with many opportunities for making significant improvements.

Although some opportunities are short term and other opportunities are more long range, none of these opportunities may ever be realized if we don’t start working on them - and the best time to begin this work is now!!

There have been efforts in the past to improve our community and -- admittedly -- some of these efforts were -- well-- less successful than we had originally hoped.

However, as we more closely examine these previous endeavors we find those shortcomings were primarily due to the following factors:

* Inadequate communications across all segments of our community;
* Insufficient marketing across multiple venues and cross-cultural populations;
* Lack of sustainability of the campaign until full internal buy-in and complete external awareness were achieved;

The SPG wants to make certan this campaign is successful both internally and externally -- therefore, we need your help and your cooperation both individually and collectively.

The SPG asks YOU to join US and accept the Corsicana Challenge!
